Did you know Thursday was International Speak Like a Pirate Day? The Pirate, Music, and Language Learning Gods did.
Hooked on Learning and Teaching English.
Oi, pessoal. Uma história que eu escrivei depois nosso encontro no sábado passado.
After last Saturday's meeting of the Brasil-Boston Interchange, I challenged the group to write a creative story to include words we learned. Mud, bucket list, pliers...all of which came about organically in our open-house style conversation.
Here's a fictional story to memorize those words and more. Thanks to all the folks at Brasil-Boston Interchange who helped with the editing and to Michael Peel for the image.
I live here, in Belo Horizonte. That's my hometown, and I love it from the bottom of my heart!
It's the capital of the State of Minas Gerais, in the southeast of Brazil, known for its cheese bread and for the huge Mineirão Stadium. Nearby are Lake Pampulha Lagoon and The Pampulha Architectural Complex, which includes The Church of São Francisco De Assis, designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
Kindness.
Who comes to mind?
What random acts of kindness have you experienced?
These are questions my English for All Students have been talking and writing about as we make our way through the alphabet.
Art, breakfast, California, dreams, emotions, friends, God, holidays, internet, and jobs.
Kindness has been at the heart of what we’ve been doing: building bridges between cultures and countries.
Most of my students are from Brazil, but the group is open to anyone who wants to learn English.
Or anyone who wants to help them learn English—with all its peculiarities, dialects, and nuances.
Students have learned from engaging guest speakers such as Chris Vallancourt (A Voice to Spend Time With), Zanny Merullo (polyglot and freelance travel journalist), David Gaskin (songwriter and musician).
And from kind souls they’ve never met:
Matt Kurtz: Kindness ripples on
Frank Caprio: Caught being kind
Fred Rogers: The king of kindness
We've moved on to the letter L, though kindness remains at our core.
Why not join us some Thursday?
